5 PE UASPs Package 1  Unit by Unit approach N3, N4 and N5 – discrete assessment tasks for each Unit Package 2  Portfolio approach across Units N3, N4 and N5 Package 3  Combined approach across Units N3, N4 and N5

6 Unit Assessment Support Packages - purpose Valid from August 2013 UASPs can be used to: Assess your candidates e.g. workbook Adapt for your own assessment programmes Help you develop your own assessments

7 Unit Specifications  Unit specifications for Factors Impacting On Performance have 3 outcomes  Each outcome is broken down into a number of Assessment Standards  Performance Units have 1 outcome across a range of assessment standards – depending on level  National 4 – Added Value has 1 outcome with 5 different assessment standards

8 National 4 Added Value Unit  Makes the Course more than the sum of its parts  Controlled assessment – single performance event  Builds on current Course assessment  Defined as breadth, challenge and/or application as outlined in Building the Curriculum 5

9 N4 AV Unit: PE  Controlled assessment – single performance event  Assessment Standards  1.1Preparing mentally, emotionally, socially or physically for the performance  1.2Selecting and applying appropriate knowledge and skills during the performance  1.3Following rules or guidelines or protocols and accepting decisions  1.4Using safe practice, showing etiquette and managing emotions appropriately  1.5Carrying out roles and responsibilities appropriately during the performance  Internally marked pass or fail

10 N5 Internal Assessment of Course Components  Single performance marked out of 40 broken down into the following areas  Performance repertoire  Control and fluency of movement and performance skills  Decision making throughout the performance  The effectiveness of following through in decision making  Extent to which rules and regulations are followed and etiquette is displayed  Extent to which emotions are controlled on the day of the performance

11 N5 Internal Assessment of Course Components 1 Planning and preparation 10 marks a)Describe 2 personal challenges you feel you need to plan and prepare for in order to carry out this demanding single performance b)Explain which these challenges are relevant to you and this demanding single performance c)Describe how you plan to prepare yourself to meet these challenges d)Carry out an appropriate warm up routine which is specific to your physical activity prior to beginning your performance 3 Evaluation 10 marks a)Evaluate your performance in relation to planning and preparation for the two challenges previously described in a and c b)Evaluate your overall performance

12 N5 Performance Controlled assessment This performance is:  set by centres within SQA guidelines  conducted under a high degree of supervision and control  Evidence will be internally marked by centre staff in line with SQA marking instructions.  Marking will be quality assured by SQA.

13 Moving on  Workshop 1 and 2 will give you the opportunity to look at the Unit Specifications and Unit Assessment Support Packages in detail.
