Rosa Parks

Background Rosa parks was born in Tuskegee, Alabama, U.S. On February 4,1913. James McCauley and Leona Edwards are her parents. She was African-American, Cherokee-Creek and had a Scot-Irish ancestry. She suffered from poor health and chronic Tonsillitis. She grew up on a farm with her mom, brother, and and grandparents. Rosa Parks had many jobs but two of them were being a domestic worker and a hospital aide.

Beliefs and Values. Rosa Parks believed in God. Every time she would go to pick cotton she would pray. She said she started believing in God when she was a little girl. She believed that black and white people should have the same rights. Also that black people should be able to sit anywhere they pleased.

Education She attended rural schools. When she was eleven she went to Industrial School for Girls in Montgomery. She went to a laboratory school set up by the Alabama state teachers college for Negroes. She was forced to drop out when her grandma became very ill and later in life her mom.

Family life. She married a man named Raymond Parks. Rosa Parks got married on December 18, 1932. They got married out side of Rosa Parks mom's house. Rosa Parks had no children.

On a bus. One day Rosa parks was on the bus in the front not in the back where she was supposed to be. So the bus driver asked her to go to the back of the bus to make room for a white person. Rosa Parks said no because there are no more seats at the back of the back of the bus. But the bus still told her to go. Rosa Parks refused. The bus driver called the police and she was arrested for violating segregation laws.

Rosa parks showed that you need to stand up for your rights. All black and white people should be together. Sit were you want to sit, drink out of the same fountain and go to the same school. Black people have the same rights as white people. She worked with Martin Luther King to stop segregation. Many other people started the Black Panther Klan.

Awards In 1979 she won the Spingarn medal. She won the Congressional Gold medal. She is honored By Vanessa and Shayla, 7-2
