2 Why are we called Hams? Frustrated commercial operators would refer to the amateur radio interference by calling them “hams”. Amateurs, possibly unfamiliar with the real meaning of the term, picked it up and applied it to themselves in true “Yankee Doodle” fashion and wore It with pride.

3 Do I Have To Learn Morse Code? Not any more. This has started back in 1992 with the introduction of the no-code technician license. In 2007 elimination of code testing for all licenses.

4 Who’s the Typical Ham? Amateur Radio operators come from all walks of life – Movie Stars, Missionaries, Doctors, Politicians, and just plain folks. They are Male and Female, all with different nationalities, beliefs and ages. All share a common interest of talking to one another.

5 What are some of the ways that radio hams communicate? Use of Phone (voice Mode) CW Digital modes: packet, PSK and APRS Use of Television
