Matthew 26-27 NT 19—Matthew 26-27 Jesus’ Trials

Matthew 26-27 Have you had a bad day???? You may not think so after you hear Cholo's storyCholo's story. Jesus’ Trials

Matthew 26-27 The standard for bad days had, of course, been set long before Cholo’s time. The 24 hours preceding Christ’s death are inarguably without equal. The following exercise will help us appreciate the meaning of D&C 88:6 that teaches: “He that ascended up on high as also he descended below all things, that he might be in all and through all things…” Jesus’ Trials

Matthew 26-27 As we go through these scriptures, try and think of similar trials from your own life in which you can take comfort, knowing Christ can sympathize because He has “descended below all things” and experienced all of these trials. Jesus’ Trials

Matthew 26-27 Jesus’ Trials After Gethsemane, Jesus was physically weak and exhausted. He was betrayed by a disciple and close friend, Judas. Many, including disciples, forsook Him. Matthew 26:36-46 (see Mosiah 3:7; D&C 19:16-19) Matthew 26:45-50 Matthew 26:55-56 Some of Jesus’ Trials between Gethsemane and the Crucifixion

Matthew 26-27 Jesus’ Trials People lied about Him. He was accused of blasphemy for telling the truth. He was sentenced to death without a cause. Matthew 26:59-62 Matthew 26:63-65 Matthew 26:66 Some of Jesus’ Trials between Gethsemane and the Crucifixion

Matthew 26-27 After illustrating 12 points on which the arrest, trial and condemnation of Christ were illegal, Walter M. Chandler concludes “The pages of human history present no stronger case of judicial murder than the trial and crucifixion of Jesus of Nazareth, for the simple reason that all forms of law were outraged and trampled under foot in the proceedings instituted against Him” (The Trial of Jesus from a Lawyer’s Standpoint, 216, quoted in Talmage, Jesus the Christ, 645-8). Jesus’ Trials

Matthew 26-27 Jesus’ Trials He was spit on, beaten, and mocked more than once. A government leader condemned Jesus to death, though he knew He was innocent. Jesus was scourged (a brutal form of whipping that frequently killed the person). Matthew 26:67-68; 27:29- 30, 41-44 Matthew 27:11-26 Matthew 27:26 Some of Jesus’ Trials between Gethsemane and the Crucifixion

Matthew 26-27 Jesus’ Trials He was stripped of His clothing. The soldiers pushed a crown of thorns onto His head. Matthew 27:28, 35 Matthew 27:29 Some of Jesus’ Trials between Gethsemane and the Crucifixion

Matthew 26-27 Elder Holland elucidates us on the final way in which Christ descended below us. None Were With Him Jesus’ Trials

Matthew 26-27 “The Son of Man hath descended below them all. Art thou greater than He?” (D&C 122:8). Jesus’ Trials
