2 EURES network EURES (European Employment Services) - is a cooperation network created for facilitation of the free movement of workers within the European Economic Area. Partners of the network include public employment services, trade unions and employers' organisations. The network is coordinated by the European Commission.

3 The main objectives of EURES are to inform, guide and provide advice to potentially mobile workers on job opportunities as well as living and working conditions in the European Economic Area to assist employers wishing to recruit workers from other countries to provide advice and guidance to workers and employers in cross-border regions

6 Labour market situation in Estonia Shortages in the following sectors: Health care Construction Transportation Ship building Information Technology

7 Currently there are no sectors with labour surpluses! Reasons: - economic growth - labour force moving abroad Labour market situation in Estonia

8 Decrease of the unemployment rate in Estonia -In the I quarter 2006 the unemployment rate was 6,4 % (ILO); -In the I quarter 2004 the unemployment rate was 10,8% (ILO); - Registrated unemployment rate on the 1st May 2006 was 2,1%. -Registrated unemployment rate on the 1st May 2004 was 4,8%.

9 Exporting labour force - projects Ireland - food industry, hotel and catering sector Finland - hotel and catering sector, cleaners, agricultural sector, construction sector etc Cyprus - hotel and catering Sweden - seasonal projects, forestry work

10 Importing labour force - projects Latvia - 50 dressmakers/sewers to Estonia Poland – tanners, bricklayers and carpenters to Estonia

11 Survey In November-Decemeber 2004 the survey was carried out among 1000 Estonian job seekers The main purpose was to estimate the level of interest towards working abroad once Estonia becomes a EU member
