3 The American Revolution was an important turning point for our country. Have you ever stopped to consider where would we be if our nation would have never fought against British rule? How was this freedom from Britain won? American won its independence by the valiant efforts of some very courageous and noble men and women. In this journey, you will be given the opportunity to learn more about how a historical figure aided in the efforts of the American Revolution.

4 Hear Ye, Hear Ye! There’s a new paper in town that wants to publish articles written by colonists about their involvement in the American Revolution.  You have decided to submit an article to the paper. In order to do this you must: 1. Select an important person from that time period from the list provided and research him/her using the links given. 2. Create a graphic organizer that details the facts of what they have done that made an impact on the American Revolution. Also include any events or opinions that may have caused them to want to take action. The gathering of these facts will assist you in writing your article. 3. Remember the sequence of events is important so make sure you keep track of dates and the order of events when gathering your data and completing your graphic organizer. Creating a timeline may be helpful. 4. When you have completed your research use this information to write an article from the point-of-view of your historical figure describing your involvement in the American Revolution. (Find out more about your paper requirements here)

Provides a graphic organizer with little to no information on what the figure has done to assist in the American Revolution and/or any events that has caused them to take action.

17 The American Revolution was what established our freedom from British rule. It was due to the efforts of both men and women working together in the name of freedom. Through this exercise you have gotten to know at least one historical figure that has made a significant impact on the American Revolution. Without efforts such as theirs, we might never have gained our freedom and could still be under British rule. Consider for a moment, how might our lives be different? Does that make their actions that seem more significant?

21 This WebQuest has been developed for the use of 5 th grade students in conjunction with their study of historical figures involved in the American Revolution. Students will learn more about a few of the men and women that contributed to this nation’s freedom from British rule. They will look through the provided names, browse the websites, and then choose a person to create a graphic organizer about detailing the specific contributions that person made during the American Revolution. Students will write a brief article from the point-of-view of their historical figure describing this persons contributions to the American Revolution. The article should include details and dates they identified in their research during their journey on this WebQuest.

22  Should be used with 5 th grade students.  WebQuest will be most effective after the students have studied events leading up to and those associated with the American Revolution. This background knowledge will assist in the students understanding and making the connections between the historical figures and the events of the American Revolution.  Students should be able to read and interpret basic informative passages identified on the web. Fact gathering skills are necessary.  Prior knowledge of timelines and graphic organizers are required to complete the WebQuest assignments.

23 SS 5.1.10 The American Revolution: 1763 to 1783. Identify major British and American leaders and describe their roles in key events of the war for independence. (Core Standard) -Students are asked to create a timeline in the Task page and are provided several links that cover various events related to the American Revolution at the Process page.TaskProcess

24 The American Revolution was an important event for our nation and this WebQuest focuses on helping the students learn more about a few of the men and women that made our freedom from Britain possible. In order for this WebQuest to be built I had to do the following: *Identify several men and women that made significant impacts on the American Revolution. *Locate websites that provided information on each of these historical figures. It was important that these sites were factual and that the reading level was appropriate for this age group. *I also wanted the students to be able to create a simple timeline. This timeline needed to include events that their historical figure was involved in along with a few additional events of the American Revolution. Websites covering general facts of the American Revolution were also located and provided. (all websites used can be located on the resources page) This WebQuest was based on the Indiana State Standards for 5 th Grade Social Studies.
