1 Grade 7 Immersion: Voyage à St-Anne Tuesday, March 18

2 Where: Université St-Anne in Church Point Nova Scotia When: Wednesday April 30 – Friday May 2, 2014

3 What will we be doing there? Attending French classes. Participating in a variety of games and activities in French. Experiencing Francophone/Acadian culture in Nova Scotia. Socializing with grade 7 late immersion students from other schools. Having FUN! (in French)

4 Why is it important? Students will have the opportunity to… be totally immersed in French; gain a cultural awareness of francophone communities in Nova Scotia; apply their knowledge of the French language in real world situations (listening and speaking); Learn more about how language and culture are interconnected.

5 Expectations for students Students will speak French at all times. A contract will be signed by each student, stating that she/he understands the purpose of the trip and will make all efforts to speak French. Students will attend all scheduled events. Students are not permitted to leave the university campus unattended. All costs for transportation, food, and activities at the university are included in the price of $200.00. *- Bring a lunch for the trip down to the university. If you wish to provide spending money in the form of cash to your child for this purpose, please use your discretion. Interact (debit) is available on campus. School expectations regarding such issues as appropriate behavior, language, and dress code are in effect for the duration of the trip.

6 Cost There are two payment options: One full payment of $200.00 on or before April 17, 2014. Three payments of $100.00, $50.00, and $50.00 respectively on March 14, March 28, and April 11, 2014. All cheques are to be made payable to: École Herring Cove Junior High School.

7 Fundraising Grade 7 students will have the opportunity to participate in an upcoming school Bingo to raise money for their trip More details to follow

8 Material Needed Personal items: Towels and facecloths soap and deodorant toothbrush and toothpaste Any medication that your child may be required to take. Please inform your child’s teacher if your student will be taking medication during the week of the trip, including the type of medication and dosage. This information is necessary in case of a medical emergency involving your child. TEACHERS AND CHAPERONES ARE NOT PERMITTED TO ADMINISTER MEDICATIONS TO STUDENTS. roommates can share: alarm clock, hair dryer, curling/straightening iron

9 2. Clothing: gym wear, sneakers bathing suit, beach or bath towels casual wear for activities (ie. the dance) 3. School supplies: 1 notebook for journal or reflection log pens, pencils, erasers small French / English dictionary French books or magazines (optional)

10 4. Sports equipment: frisbee (optional) baseball glove and ball (optional) 5. Food: *- Bring a lunch for the trip down to the university. Crackers, fruit, juice, etc. may be kept in the residence Spending money: There is a store on campus at which students can buy souvenirs, t-shirts, etc. A debit machine is available at the souvenir shop on campus. Teachers and chaperons will not be responsible for safeguarding students’ cash.
