Save and Restore – Allows a snapshot to be created of the control modules assigned to one or more PC nodes.
Convert – Automatically transforms blocks assigned to fieldbus to to their equivalent DeltaV function block. Also, changes external I/O reference parameters so that applications may read and write these parameters.

Point: All features of the DeltaV system and fieldbus devices can be configured and then simulated on a single PC.
This capability is standard with DeltaV - no added cost
If you install DeltaV on a PC, then this stand alone capability is provide if no license dongle is present.
This capability may be used to check out control logic and operator interfaces
You may develop and check out OPC interfaces to DeltaV using this capability.
No DeltaV hardware or system license required.

4. Background - DeltaV Simulate/SimulatePro Supports System Configuration and Execution
Modules may be assigned and downloaded to a ProPlus or Application Station node for execution i.e. no hardware controller is required.
Operator displays, Control Studio on-line, alarming, historian, etc function as in the operating plant without any configuration changes.
Support provided for both continuous and batch control.

Point: The HYSYS simulation product has been modified by Hyprotech to use OPC and the simulate capability of the I/O function blocks in DeltaV and fieldbus devices.
Interface to DeltaV is configurable ie no programming required.

6. Background - DeltaV Simulate Pro Adds Features for Operator Training and Engineering Development
All inputs blocks assigned to a node may be changed to Simulate Enable or Disable, Setup or Normal mode with a single request.
Initialization of all dynamic blocks to steady state with a single request.
Faster or Slower than real-time execution of all modules assigned to a node.

10. Updating a Save File
The following procedure should be followed to allow previous save file values to be retained
Load the configuration used when the last save file was created. Request a Restore (with option to resume execution NOT selected)  
Import new or modified modules, assign to PC nodes and do a partial download.
Set the desired initial value of the parameters in the modules that were downloaded
Request a Save to create an updated Save file

11. New Feature - SimulatePro Convert
Convert may be accessed by right clicking on the PC node in DeltaV Explorer.
All blocks assigned to fieldbus are changed to their equivalent controller blocks
All external I/O references are redefined as external parameter references

12. After Executing SimulatePro Convert
A new module whose tag is “M_PC name” appears in the list of assigned modules.
Converted modules show up as needing to be downloaded since the modules have been changed.

14. Conversion of Blocks Assigned to Fieldbus
Blocks assigned to fieldbus are automatically changed to their equivalent DeltaV block.
Conversion is one way and thus should be done using a copy of the primary database.

15. On-line Execution of Converted Module Containing Fieldbus Blocks
All blocks execute as they would in fieldbus.
Control logic may be checked out by enabling Simulate in input blocks
Blocks execute exactly as they will in fieldbus devices.

16. Example of Module Using External I/O References
External I/O references are commonly used in modules.
Provide a means of including input/output from PLC’s, sub-systems, and fieldbus e.g. Asi, DeviceNet, Profibus.
In a simulation environment, these external I/O references are invalid. DeltaV SimulatePro Convert addresses this issue.

17. Conversion of Modules with I/O References
I/O references are automatically converted to external parameter references – no impact on displays that use these parameters.
A new module is automatically created that contains all parameter referenced by modules assigned to the node

Referenced parameters in the new modules may be read and written from control studio – allowing control logic to be checked out.
Process Simulate packages may read and write these reference parameters using OPC.
Modules may be created that use these parameters to duplicate the logic contained in the PLC, subsystem etc.
