3 INTRODUCTION This study is to: determine the relationship between student’s background which include parents education, schooling experience, major examination result and family economic status with academic achievement in university.

4 Many researches show that:
High educated parents cause positive influence on students academic achievements (Jimerson et al, 1999). Boarding school act as a role as a body of motivated and well-rounded students who study and live with supportive inclusive academic community, prepare the student well for future education (The Association of Boarding School of United State, 2003) The entry channels (STPM, Matriculation, Diploma) in university is a major factor in influencing success of students in higher education institution (Norsida H et al, 2010). Parents involvement in education plays an important role in supporting academic achievement of a student (LaBahn, 1995)

5 Research Question Is there any relationship between the students’s background and the academic achivements among third year undergraduates of FSK 2011/2012, UKM?

6 Research Justification
This research is conducted to - study the relationship of students’s background and the academic achievements in third year undergraduates of Faculty of Health Sciences (FSK) 2011/2012 session, UKM. -prove that students background will affects their academic achievements in university. - identify the factors that will affect the effort and passion in achieving good target in university. - identify the factors that will affect thier study patterns and thier academic performances. The factors involve are the type of secondary school attended, home environment, family economic status, family and peer support.

7 HYPOTHESIS Null Hypothesis, H0
There is a relationship between students background and their academic achievements in university. Alternative Hypothesis, Ha There is no relationship between students background and their academic achievements in university.

8 OBJECTIVE General Objective Specific Objectives
To study the relationship between students background and academic achievements in third year students 2011/2012 of Health Sciences Faculty, University Kebangsaan Malaysia Kuala Lumpur Campus. Specific Objectives To identify the demographic patterns of third year undergraduate of Health Sciences Faculty students. To identify the effect of courses choosen during UPU application on students achievements in university. To compare students’ results during pre-university and results during university. To compare the performance of students in every semester. To determine the study pattern among the third year undergraduate of Health Sciences Faculty students.

9 Research Design Correlation in design.
Cross sectional study whereby we analyzes data of a group of subjects at the present state of study. First Variable: the background of the students Second Variable: is the academic performance which will be determined by their cumulative grade point average (CGPA) from their first until fifth semester and then we will look whether their CGPA will be affected by their background or not.

10 Target population Sample Study
All third year students of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur Campus. Sample Study All third year students in the Faculty of Health Sciences in Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur Campus.

11 Sampling Method Stratified random sampling –
Population study that consist of all third year 2011/2012 undergraduates of Faculty of Health Sciences (FSK), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur Campus which will divided into strata according to respective courses in FSK

12 Sample Size Chi-square test, df =1, with significant level of 5%, and degree of accuracy, Δ  is 5%.                      where  c² = 3.84, Δ= 0.05, p = 0.5, N= population size =   ≈  162

13 -In case of occurrence of missing data, outliers and attrition, estimate 10% of the proportion would drop out in ordered to achieve the final desired sample size. The formula to make up for the losses of samples: -Final sample size=180 subjects.
