3 Possessive Pronouns Pronouns replace one or more words A possessive pronoun shows ownership. It can show who or what owns, or possesses something. The pronouns my, your, her, his, its, our, and their are possessive pronouns.

4 Let’s take a look at the following pairs of sentences so you can see how pronouns work. The men followed Shackleton’s plan. The men followed his plan. The storm’s winds were fierce. Its winds were fierce.

5 Choose a possessive pronoun to replace the underlined word or words. 1. Shackleton’s crew faced a dangerous journey. 2. Shackleton wanted to save the men’s lives. 3. The tired men felt the fire’s warmth. 4. The sea leopard jumped at Tom’s feet. His their its his

6 Take out your whiteboard.

8 Take out your practice books and turn to page 106. For sentences 1-5, find the possessive pronoun in each sentence and write it on the line. For sentences 6-10, write the possessive pronoun that could take the place of the underlined word or words.
