6 Prisoners in the U.S. The number of people incarcerated in the U.S. has quadrupled in the last 3 decades More than 2 million people in federal and state prisons and local jails (1 in 100 Americans, and according to the World Prison Brief, more inmates than the top 35 European countries combined.) 700,000 are released from STATE prisons each year Corrections costs exceed $65 billion each year Most of this is borne by State and Local governments

7 U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder ‘To put it simply, reentry has moved from the margins to the mainstream.’ A new Cabinet level inter-agency working group to ensure reentry programmes remain a high priority across govt Second Chance Act funding to coalitions of government and non-profit orgs to assist with employment and other services
