2 B.1. TEXT OF THE REGULATION, GENERAL PART 3.9. ‘non-exposed’ type of fuel storage tank and delivery system means that the fuel storage and fuel delivery system are not directly exposed to radiation of sunlight; ① Definition for ‘non-exposed’ type of fuel storage tank ref: 1 ・ Chronological science tables 2 : Japan machine handbook Add the following sentence to the definition of ‘non‐exposed’ type fuel tank. 3.9. ‘non‐exposed’ type of fuel storage tank and delivery system means that the fuel storage and fuel delivery system are not directly exposed to radiation of sunlight or if manufacturer can properly validate it to be treated as non‐exposed type. Justification There are many models whose fuel tanks are covered by cowlings and only fuel tank caps are exposed and connected to the fuel tanks with rubber tubes. In such case, the fuel and vapor temperature doesn’t increase so much as specified by the exposed condition since the fuel cap is usually insulated by low thermal conductivity material. Therefore, if a manufacturer can provide the evidence that shows the equivalency to the non‐exposed type, it is appropriate to be treated as non‐exposed type. 1 1 1 2 1

5 Temperature test result Only the fuel tank cap is exposed and connected by non‐metallic (ex; rubber) material to the fuel tank of non‐exposed type Only the fuel tank cap is exposed and connected by non‐metallic material to the fuel tank covered by cowling, non-exposed type. In this case it can be treated as non‐exposed type, since the vapor and fuel temperature increases same as that of non‐exposed type. light Time (s) Vapor temperature ℃ All components of the fuel tank are non‐exposed 1 2 1 2 vapor temperature.
