WG2 2009-05-05K. Jon-And, Stockholm University1 Access of non-ATLAS physicists to ATLAS data and unofficial results WG2 meeting 2009-05-05

WG2 2009-05-05K. Jon-And, Stockholm University2 General principles for ATLAS members From physics policy document Only results and plots which have been approved should be shown outside the Collaboration, unless covered by one of the exceptions below. Confidentiality of results prior to publication and security of confidential information are the personal responsibility of all ATLAS members.

WG2 2009-05-05K. Jon-And, Stockholm University3 From publication policy document

WG2 2009-05-05K. Jon-And, Stockholm University4 1. Qualify as an ATLAS author To qualify as an author a person has to do technical work during the first year as member, at least 50% of the research time, minimum 80 working days. To continue as an author you should spend at least 50% of your research time on ATLAS and not be an author of another LHC experiment. You have to carry out Operation Tasks and for PhD authors M&O has to be paid. Three ways to collaborate with ATLAS 1. Qualify as an ATLAS author 2. Short-term Association with ATLAS 3. Interactions with the authors of Monte Carlo generators and related tools

WG2 2009-05-05K. Jon-And, Stockholm University5 2. Short-term Association with ATLAS Colleagues benefiting from this status participate in the analysis work leading to one or more papers, have access to ATLAS data, and become authors of the paper(s) to which they have contributed. Short-term association requires Collaboration Board endorsement. Formal short-term associations shall normally be limited to the cases where an external person or group brings expertise that is not resident within the ATLAS collaboration. The external group or individual should provide resources and contributions well in excess of what an ATLAS group or member would normally contribute, over a similar period of time, to an ATLAS study leading to a given publication.

WG2 2009-05-05K. Jon-And, Stockholm University6 3.Interactions with the authors of Monte Carlo generators and related tools Physics Coordination decides which processes may benefit from early interactions (i.e. before results are published) with MC authors, and authorizes discussions with specified MC authors by individuals or physics groups. Physics Coordination decides also which plots and results can be shown in these discussions (see below). In no case will direct access to ATLAS data be given.
