5 WORKING WITH OTHER SYSTEMS

6 GET THE FACTS Did you know that your intestines are miles long? The digestive system has two major functions: to convert food into nutrients your body needs, and to rid of body waste. Your stomach does not do most of the digestion. The small intestine does most of the digestion. Animals’ digestive system is close, but not the same as humans’. The digestive system is home to many forms of cancer. Stomach rumbling can happen at any time, not just when you are hungry. Every two weeks, the human stomach produces a new layer of mucous lining, otherwise the stomach would digest itself. The human liver performs 500 different functions. The liver is the largest and heaviest organ. Liver cells take several years to replace themselves.
