St. Louis was where Lewis and Clark first started their expedition of the Louisiana Purchase. It was a very important city on the Mississippi river, because many families and groups would buy and trade supplies here before starting their journey westward. Without St. Louis, people would have had a more difficult of a time expanding to the west.

The Battle of San Jacinto is a part of Manifest Destiny because it is where Santa Anna signed the treaty that gave Texas it’s independence. If Texas hadn’t of won it’s independence, then it never would have been able to be annexed into the United States nine years later. Also, there was plenty of free land people could move onto.

The Rio Grande River was where Mexican troops crossed over and attacked posted American soldiers. This in turn sparked the Mexican War. The result of the Mexican War was the U.S. gained the Mexican Cession, further increasing it’s size and power.

Mexico City was where Mexican leaders signed the Treaty of Guadalupe-Hidalgo in 1848 after the U.S. had won the Mexican War. In turn, the treaty gave the United States the Mexican Cession, which was comprised of California and New Mexico. This continued the United State’s dream of Manifest Destiny.

Sutter’s Mill was where the California Gold Rush first started. When news of gold being found on John Sutter’s land came out, over 80,000 people moved to California in 1849 alone. This sudden increase in population also came with a major increase in crime. This led the leaders of California to request to be admitted into the Union.

This was the final stop on the 2000 mile long trail that people took when they went on the Oregon Trail. It was the end of the long hard quest for free land and a better life that caused people to go on the Oregon Trail. Oregon City gave people a place to stay and replenish their supplies once they arrived in Oregon.

When America forced thousands of Native American to move out of their native lands into what is now Oklahoma, they called the route they took the Trail of Tears. Tahlequah was where tribal government for the Cherokees was located after they had all moved. The Trail of Tears is a part of Manifest Destiny because by forcing the Indians out, the United States gained much land it had previously not owned.
