20 Good News: Last Spring, the Legislature redefined Basic Education, eliminating district-to-district inequity (when fully funded). 1.“ Prototype Schools” - Levels the Playing Field 2.Teacher Training, Collaboration, Mentoring 3.Voluntary ‘Pre-K’ - for at-risk kids 3 & 4 year olds.

21 Good News: Last Spring, the Legislature redefined Basic Education, eliminating district-to-district inequity (when fully funded). Bad News: The State will have to come up with $8 Million, to bring Auburn up to State Average. With the $2.6 Billion deficit next year, they won’t be able to do it until ~2011. But they’ll never do it if we don’t ask!

Speaker Chopp, I volunteer in three kindergartens serving 80 kids, with 70% Free & Reduced Lunch and 30% English Language learners. Half way through the year, several don't know the difference between 'three' and 'four'. We fund Auburn classrooms $14,000 per year, less than State average.
