8 Leadership, Management Style, and Teambuilding “If everyone isn’t committed to the success of their teammates individually and collectively, then you don’t have a real team” (Carley, 1996, p. 41). Factions are common since organizations are mirrors of our society and are, therefore, dysfunctional (Kofman and Senge, 1993). Three problems that emerge from society into our organizations: fragmentation, competition, and reactiveness (Kofman and Senge, 1993).

9 Leadership, Management Style, and Teambuilding Teambuilding Decrease fragmentation/ competition and replace with supportive relationships. Open lines of communication. Working together for common goals. Recognizing the viewpoints and resources of everyone. GOAL = Teambuilding becomes WTC standard operating procedure from top administration through the ranks.

14 Enrollment: Retention Develop and Institutionally-Supported Retention Plan Implement an Early Alert System for New Students Summer Programs Link Retention to the Strategic Plan Embrace Campus Diversity

15 Enrollment: Retention Federally-funded early intervention summer programs such as Upward Bound, target scholar and at-risk middle and high school students. Participants who complete 1 st year of college have higher GPA’s than similar students who did not attend program. Four times as likely to earn an undergraduate degree.

16 Enrollment: Retention Phase One Implement a summer, pre-college residential and day student program for high school students. Focus on ACT/SAT prep, literature, math, science, and theatre. Phase Two Host federally-funded Upward Bound early intervention program targeting at-risk high school students.

18 Additional Revenue Sources Use existing campus facilities for hosting outside groups and private events. Raising revenue; increasing exposure and the number of outsiders who visit campus.

Summer and Winter Break Rentals Residence halls, theatre, recreation field, and swimming pool. Year-round Rentals Art Museum, Garden beyond the Museum

20 New Organizational Structure Recruit and retain high quality faculty and staff Train new faculty by assigning mentor, tenured faculty Enhance current technology Increase grant funding through increased research

21 New Organizational Structure: Short Term Solutions Appoint local advisory board  The primary functions of the board are to offer advice and perspective on education issues; to provide a link between the college and business, government; and to serve as an advocate for the college in promoting academic programs and recruiting activities. The board will consist of alumni and prominent business people from the area. Place more emphasis on academic side of IT  This can be accomplished by allowing the librarian and Faculty Senate to work with the IT staff to ensure that students and faculty needs are met.

22 New Organizational Structure: Long Term Solutions Add more Library staff/update materials Adding more staff and updating materials will be beneficial to staff, students and faculty. Funding for Student Services/Sports It plays a role in retention and retaining students Implement workshops to further train Administrative staff Great way for staff to develop the experience they needed in working with computers
