We have ~58 servers within the domain. Exchange2Exchange1 mail.andover.edu Bboardapp1 panet.andover.edu ANDOVER Storage Servers

Storage Services On the Domain each server has folders for its constituents. Each person has at least 2 folders that they have access to: H – Home (My Documents) S – Share (Department Documents)

Server Paths Studentdocs.andover.edu //studentdocs.andover.edu/users/jsmith\profile\my documents Facultydocs.andover.edu \\facultydocs.andover.edu\users\jsmith/profile\my documents Staffdocs.andover.edu \\staffdoc\USERS\Administration\abridgewater\My Documents\ The slash!! \\ mapped drive, // Web (http) The server name!! Facultydocs (off campus and Web), Facultydoc (on campus)

Drive Mappings On a Windows computer that participates in the Domain during login (when the login script runs) it automatically maps your home and share drives for you. These drives can be seen under “My Computer”, which can be accessed by clicking on the start button (if not displayed on the desktop.

Accessing Storage on an Academy PC On a Windows computer on the academy network you will have access to your documents just by logging into the machine. 1. On login the drives you have access to will map automatically. 2. You can save to the local My Documents folder or to the mapped share (remember the share is ONLY a network drive). 3. On logout synchronization will mirror the documents you saved to the My Documents folder to the H drive on your storage server (studentdocs, facultydocs, or staffdocs)

Accessing Storage from Personal Computers Option I Webfolders (PC) or SMB (Mac) Option II Htcomnet Option III FTP

On a personally owned PC, students and faculty can create a Web folder to access any documents saved in their storage areas. 1. To create a Web folder, you need to get to the “My Network Places” and choose 2. Most importantly you need the correct path to your “My Documents” folder or your shared folder. Remember that faculty can have a share that lives on Staffdocs, even though their My Documents folder lives on Facultydocs. 3. You are prompted to login using your PAnet credentials. 4. The user can name their network place anything they will remember as their access to their storage area on the server. They can also move the folder once they have created it (for easy access). Option I Webfolders PC

On any Macintosh computer, students and faculty can create a SMB to access any documents saved in their storage areas. 1. To create a SMB, you choose GO from the finder and Connect to Server. 2. AGAIN, most importantly you need the correct path to your “My Documents” folder or your shared folder. Remember that faculty can have a share that lives on Staffdocs, even though their My Documents folder lives on Facultydocs. 3. You are prompted to login using your PAnet credentials. Option I SMB Macintosh

Option II Htcomnet Using one of these browsers (Internet Explorer 5.1 or 5.2 for Mac or 5.5 or above for PC), a faculty member can type the address below into the address bar and access their “My Documents” folder as well as their Share(s): 1. http://facultydocs.andover.edu/htcomnet 1. Login using your PAnet credentials. On the left side of the window, you will see the files and folders within your MY DOCUMENTS folder on the server. You can use the menu bar to manage, store and retrieve your documents.

Htcomnet Window Share Access My Documents Toolbar

Htcomnet Screen PC only

Option III FTP Using an FTP client and the correct path, you can ftp many documents at once or one file at a time directly into your storage folders. Negative of this option is that most people are not familiar with using ftp clients.

Quota Students quota 200 MB Faculty quota is 500 MB Shares are 1 Gig and up (per request and need)

OVER? Quota When the user is close to their quota they will receive an e-mail messages indicating that they need to clean up and delete materials. They get a message at 85%, 95%, and 99%. They will receive multiple messages (there are 3 types) and it will be increasingly important to clean up and get under quota. If they ignore the messages the possiblity for document corruption and loss is HIGH. The help desk is able to run a report for the user which displays their large files.
