Week 5 10 th grade science

 Suppose a bullet travels with uniform motion a distance of 2 m in 0.005 second. If we divide the displacement by the time interval, we get 400 m/s. How do you interpret the number 400 in light of the fact that the bullet only traveled 2 m? Must Do – ratios

 Create an event in your table of contents titled, “Non-Uniform Motion Experiment 1.”  Turn to the next right blank page and title it the same.  Create a label that says “Part A” on the left top line of the paper. In Your Notebook

1.Tape the timer in place on a smooth flat surface 2.Run your paper tape through one of the grey brackets and then under the striker (black wheel with washer attached to it with a screw) and under the blue carbon disk pinned to the timer. 3.Then thread the tape through the other grey bracket. 4.Tape the tape to the fan cart on the opposite end as the switch. 5.Hold the fan cart in place and turn it on 6.Turn on the ticker timer 7.Release the fan (make sure you have 2 meters of runway before you release it. 8.Turn off the timer after tape has gone through. Part A - How To Use a Ticker Timer

 Observe the fan cart in motion.  In your notebook, describe the motion of the fan cart.  Is it uniform or non-uniform? Part A - Make Observations

 Create a label that says part B  Get a fan cart and a ticker timer, follow the instructions from Part A –  When you are finished, discuss the following with your partner and record your thoughts in your notebook.  Examine the tape. How can you tell from the tape whether the motion is uniform or non-uniform? Part B – Experiment!

 Divide your tape into intervals of six spaces as shown.   The timer is constructed so that it hits the tape 60 times each second.  In your notebook respond to the following  What is the duration of each six-space interval; that is, how much time does each six-space interval take?  Explain your reasoning. Part C – Data processing

 Divide the total displacement by the total duration of the trip.  In your notebook  Explain what this number means, can it be interpreted as the number of centimeters traveled each second  Measure the displacement during the first half and during the last half of the entire trip. Record your measurements in a table. Part D – Data processing IntervalDisplacement in first half Displacement in second half Whole motion_______________ _ One-second Interval_______________ _ 0.1-second interval_______________ _
