Topic 2011-12: Resolved: The United States federal government should substantially increase its exploration and/or development of space beyond the Earth’s mesosphere. Public Forum Debate (team) Focus is on debate for the lay person, persuasion, 1 topic/ month. Topic October 2011: Resolved: Private sector investment in human space exploration is preferable to public sector investment. Lincoln Douglas Debate (individual) Focus is on philosophical debate, 1 topic/ 2 months. Topic September/October 2011: Resolved: Justice requires the recognition of animal rights.

8 Lincoln Douglas Debate The affirmative and negative each choose a value that applies to the resolution to show the superiority of their side. Philosophical theory and empirical evidence is used to support each side. Debaters gain a strong foundation in philosophy.
