9 US occupation of Japan General Douglas Mac Arthur was in charge of the occupation. Emperor Hirohito had to admit that he was not a god. He was allowed to be a ‘symbol of Japan’ A new constitution created a democratic government. * Japan’s military –defensive only. *Guaranteed human rights & women’s right to vote

Japanese people work hard, saving & investing their $$ & rebuilding their cities & infrastructure (roads, bridges, & transportation)
