The culture of Mexico and relevant geographical features. Vocabulary: body parts, classroom objects, professions, greetings, classroom commands, courtesy expressions, sports, animals, numbers, and food (desserts and beverages).

asking him/her how many pesos or euros (participation money) they made in class for their listening and speaking skills. This will help you know how active your child is in Spanish. I recommend Spanish I students make 2-3 euros per day if in Spanish I. 7 th graders should make at least 1 peso. Ask him/her to share with you something they learned that day in class. The Spanish we learn in class is useful for everyone at home;) Remember, if you don’t use it, you lose it! Expose yourself to as much Spanish as possible. If you are watching a movie, set the subtitles in Spanish. If you know the movie’s plot already, you can challenge yourself by switching the audio to Spanish.

8 th grade Spanish is a high school class (Spanish I), and it is a year-round course in which students can opt to receive Carnegie unit for it. Students are still required to take 2 extra Spanish classes while at Carrollton High School, therefore allowing them to take on extra foreign language classes to help them master the target language. Spaces are VERY limited. Students are recommended to sign up as soon as possible.

Greetings Courtesy expressions Classroom commands Numbers 0-100 Alphabet Classroom objects Body parts Weather Personal Pronouns Personal descriptions (ex. smart, nice, talented, etc.) Likes/Dislikes (including action verbs) Food School subjects Family Places in the community Parts of the House

In 8 th grade especially, it is VERY important that students keep up with their participation money because it is worth 40% of their grade. Due to the great deal of vocabulary covered in Spanish I, new vocabulary is presented almost every day. 7 th grade participation is roughly 10% of their grade.

Please have student see señora Schelp immediately. Feeling confused from time to time in a foreign language class is normal. Ask for help ASAP before it gets worse! It is normal for me to meet with students before or after school for extra help. This is also a great way for your child to make extra $$$ since they should be rewarded for the extra practice and effort. Extra practice should not limit student from participating in class.
