Freedom of Speech.

 The First Amendment of the United States Constitution protects the right to freedom of religion and freedom of expression from government interference. ◦ Know as “Freedom of Speech”

 Freedom of speech is important to United States citizens because it gives them the ability to speak out against the government and any other institution, within reasonable measure. ◦ Freedom of speech is an important amendment within our nation's constitution, that can dictate who we are as Americans. It allows us to state our opinions, speak whatever is on your minds, and to state facts anywhere.

 The Bill of Rights consists of the first ten amendments, which contain procedural and substantive guarantees of individual liberties and limits upon government control and intervention.

The First Amendment, perhaps is best known for these freedoms and protections,  prohibits the establishment of a state- supported church.  freedom of worship.  Freedom of speech and press.  The rights of peaceable assembly, association and petition.

 There are five rights that the 1 st Amendment promises U.S citizens. ◦ Freedom of the press. ◦ Freedom of religion. ◦ Freedom of speech. ◦ Freedom to peaceably assemble. ◦ Freedom to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

 These are rights that most people overlook. Many people might not feel like the First Amendment truly affects them, but it does on a daily basis.  Without the First Amendment, newspapers would not be able to print the day’s news, and churches would have to conform to some type of mandated belief.

 Freedom of Speech allows citizens of the United States to be different and do what they choose too do in life.

 The United States, probably like no other nation, has recognized the importance of freedom of expression to safeguard democracy and grow as a nation. However, this does not mean there are no efforts to try to curtail it. The internet has often been the target of this efforts, as it provides practically everyone with the ability to communicate their ideas to wide audiences and escapes the ability of the state to control it.
