AEM 2008 West Spring Secondary School Project Presentation Case designated: *Case Study 2: Wayne Bertnam Williams Trial

INFORMATION OF SUSPECT: * Born on May 27,1958, Wayne Bertram Williams, was identified to be the suspect for the Atlanta (Georgia) Child Murders. * He was believed to be involve in the distasteful Atlanta Child Murders that took place in the time frame of, 1979 - 1982 * Wayne was identified to be the murderer of 2 – 30 Black children and was a also believed to kill two black adolescents.

-He was on trial against his murder of two young adult black male. -He was a knowledgeable men, being a son of two teachers.

-This case concerns life and death of the innocent. - It also involves a person’s psychological unstableness and racism. -The murderer’s intention can be associated with racism as most of the victims were targeted against black children and adult men -Therefore, the government must put a stop againts the crime that could advocate racism.

Base on our research … “Their(police) suspicions about Williams increased after he failed a polygraph test, and hairs and fibers on one of the victims' bodies were found consistent with those from Williams' home, car, and dog.”polygraph 1 2

FIBER ANALYSIS *In addition to hair and glass, fiber is another source that forensic scientist look at for evidence. *Fiber analysis is a trace evidence. The forensic scientist will then examine the fiber size, crimp, color, luster, cross-section or even soil damage or adhering debris Is a usual practice to determine the refractive index of a fiber specimen to allow for comparisons and matching with existing databases.. Chemical testing can also be used for the identification of fibers.

Hence during the trial with the aid of fiber analysis … 1.During the two-month long trial, they concluded the trial with the discovery of 19 different sources of fibers in his environment. 2.They found it at: his bedspread, bathroom, gloves, clothes, carpets, dog and an unusual tri- lobal carpet fiber to a number of victims. “. There was also eyewitness testimony placing Williams with different victims, blood stains from victims matching blood in Williams' car, and testimony that he was a pedophile attracted to young black boys.” pedophile Furthermore, victims Middlebrooks, Wyche, Cater, Terrell, Jones and Stephens all supposedly bore fibers from the trunk liner of 1979 Ford automobile owned by the Williams family. The clothes of victim Stephens also allegedly yielded fibers from a second car – a 1970 Chevrolet – owned by Wayne’s parents.

The fibers found on the victims were not rare. In fact, it can be found in many apartment building complexes, business and residential homes. Therefore, it would not be that unusual for the victims to have come in contact with trifocal type fibers. There was more controversy over the transference of such fibers. The state argued that fibers were transferred directly from Williams ’ s environment to the victims. Hence, one must assume that if fibers could be transferred from William’s environment to the victims, then fibers from the victims clothing or living environment would naturally be found on Williams or in his home or car. Furthermore if they had been killed in his house or transported in his car, which the state believed to have happened. Yet, absolutely no evidence of hair or fibers from the victims was found in Williams’s house or car. Williams was charged guilty and sentenced to life imprisonment.

After much discussion we concluded that we acknowledge this question as :NEUTRAL instead a direct agree or disagree. We agree with the fact that Wayne Bertram Williams was not proven to kill those children. On the other hand, we disagre e that he was only be charged against two murders. Furthermore, as we browse through the internet, speculations has been made that the government investigated that case for the sake of it since the demand from the public is high.

The trial was concluded with the fact that Wayne Bertram Williams was put under assumption that he was responsible of all the killings. As a punishment over his misdeeds, Wayne Bertram Williams was sentence to life imprisonment.
