2 Bell Ringer 3 Minutes  What can we learn about human nature through past decisions?

3 Word Study 2 Minutes  Kingdom of Mali  Kingdom of Kongo

4 AIM  R9-10.9: Compare and Contrast treatments of the same topic in several primary and secondary sources

5 Video 10 Minutes  During the video on the Kingdom’s of West Africa, set up a T-Chart  Your topic West African Kingdoms  The left hand side of your T-chart, list your facts.  The right hand side of your T-chat, list why you think that this fact is important to understanding the topic OR you can pose a question.

6 CHAMPS  C=conversation we will share out after the video  H=help raise your hand  A=activity we are watching the video and taking notes (not sleeping)  M=movement, we are not  P=participation we are watching and taking notes

7 Gallery Walk 30 minutes  There are primary and secondary sources posted around the room (they are numbered you do not need to go in order)  You are to set up a three column chart  Topic West African Gallery Walk  Column one, what is document, describe or title if provided  Column two, locate two facts from the document  Column three, what have your facts taught you about West African Kingdoms.

8 CHAMPS for Gallery Walk  C=conversation you may speak about the content with those around you but you are discussing content  H=help, I will be walking around  A=activity, you are recording your facts and thoughts  M=movement, you are walking the room be respectful of your peers and their personal space.  P=participation, you are walking, writing, and discovering

9 Homework  Revisit today’s bell ringer question, “What can we learn about human nature through past actions?” and answers this question in a three paragraph MEL-Con based in the content we covered last week and today. Due Thursday September 5, 2013  *Please bring your books for tomorrow’s class

10 Exit Ticket 5 Minutes  MEL-Con: What evidence is there of human ingenuity in West African societies in the 1300-1600’s? (one paragraph)
