2 Identify the location of the independent variable and dependent variables on a graph. The INDEPENDENT variable is ALWAYS located on the X-axis. The DEPENDENT variable is ALWAYS located on the Y-axis.

3 Describe what has to be done when placing a scale on the X and Y-axis. The scales on the X and Y- axis must have a CONSISTENT INTERVAL. For example: – By 1’s  1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7… – By 2’s  2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12… – By 5’s  5, 10, 15, 20, 25… – By 10’s  10, 20, 30, 40, 50… – By 25’s  25, 50, 75, 100, 125, 150… Be sure to skip the same number of boxes in between each number on your scales.

4 What must you remember when you are required to “State the relationship between…..” ? Your answer must always start with “As the INDEPENDENT VARIABLE increases, the DEPENDENT VARIABLE…” Fill in the correct independent variable and dependent variable into the sentence. To complete the sentence explain what the line is doing. Examples: – Increases – Decreases – Remains the same – Increases and then decreases
