4 The history of the Ganges river The Ganges is a colossal river in the East of India. The River runs through a country called Bangladesh. Worried by the rising level of pollution. The Indian authorities launched an ambitious Ganga action plan in 1986 to clean the river. But 14 years on, the environmentalist say little has been achieved. Contents Page
