1 Warm Up- #1 1. Take a seat. Assigned seats will be given in a few minutes. 2. Please follow all instructions given by teacher. Objective: Students will be able to understand the outline and objectives of 7 th grade Social Studies, and review the behavior expectations for the classroom,. Tasks 1. Review the Warm Up and how class will begin each day 2. Assign Seats to students 3. Have students fill out information index cards 4. Rights and Responsibilities Handbook Review 5. Review School Wide and 7 th Grade Expectations 6.Pass out and Review 7 th Grade Global/Social Studies Syllabus and Expectations/ Handouts 7. Interactive Notebook Powerpoint Assessment 5 Themes of Geography IB Board Games Homework 1. Get Class Expectations sheet signed. 2. Decorate the front of your Global/Social Studies Interactive Notebook. Include pictures, drawings, what ever you like that is appropriate for school. Be prepared to present your covers to the class.

3 Rights and Responsibilities Handbook Activity- A Day 1 st Block: On a sheet of paper explain in your own words (at least 3 sentences) the importance of having a safe school. Imagine a school without rules and how this would impact our learning (at least 3 sentences). Finally, select a rule and explain the importance of following that rule (at least 3 sentences). Be prepared to share your response with the class. 2 nd Block: I will read several different scenarios to you. After I finish reading the scenario I will call on one student to indicate which rule was violated and what the consequence should be. Once these scenarios are solved and discussed, you will create your own scenarios and determine those consequences. 4 th Block: Complete the note taking worksheet that I will hand out to you. Fill in the blanks with the missing words and summarize the meaning of each of the rules. Review worksheets as a class On a sheet of paper, have each student explain the importance of having a safe school. Ask them to imagine a school without rules and how this would impact our learning. At the end of the allotted time, have the students share their writings with the class. Students may also select a rule and explain the importance of following that rule. Allow students to exchange papers and correct grammar, spelling, and content. Post final writings in the classroom. Remember, no last names displayed.

4 Rights and Responsibilities Handbook Activity- B Day 1 st Period: Now that reading of pages 17-21 is complete, pick one of the topics and write a paragraph (5 sentences) summarizing what they learned. Be prepared to share these with the class. 2 nd Period: Work with a partner and write about a situation that would require them to use the forms (at least a paragraph). This should be written on notebook paper and turned in. Be prepared to share your ideas with the class. 4 th Period: Complete the Rights and Responsibilities Handbook Scavenger Hunt.

11 Maintaining the Interactive Notebook No ripped out pages or torn corners No doodling that doesn’t relate to notes Notebook should only be used in Social Studies. (No other classes!!) Date and number each page

12 How will the Interactive Notebook be graded? Interactive notebooks are checked once a quarter. Before they are collected you will be given a rubric explaining what items and organization I will be looking for. Interactive Notebooks count as an Informal Assessment 45% grade and a Homework 10% grade.

13 Class Discussion and Questions: Please take out a piece of paper and answer the following questions in complete sentences: 1.Why are you in this class today? 2.How can studying the history of the world from the Age of Exploration (1400-1800) to Current Times influence your life ? 3.Write down as much as you can remember about the 5 themes of geography? 4.If you could travel to any place in the world where would it be and why?
