5 SURAH’S DIAGRAM The lord of Falagh Say I seek refuge From the evil of what is created The evil of darkness when it settles The evil of the blowers to the knots The evil of the envious when he envies Refuge

6 WORDS OF THE SOURAH Ghol (say): expressing your intention and conveying it in someway A’ouzo (to seek refuge): seeking refuge in someone who can save you from a pending threat Rababa (Lord):driving someone toward perfection and removing his imperfections

7 WORDS OF THE SOURAH Falagh (splitting): a splitting in which there is a meaningful distinction before and after the split Sharara (evil): the opposite of good; by good we mean that which is preferred because it is better; evil respectively brings damage and disadvantage Khalagha (to create): creating something in a specific way Ghasagha (dominant darkness):ghasagha is a darkness which spreads and dominates a place, both material and spiritual

8 WORDS OF THE SURAH Vaghaba (permeate): when something penetrates through something and settles there Nafatha (blow): expelling air to something forcefully so that some of your saliva pours out to that thing Aghada (tie): attachment of two or more things and fastening them in a certain point Hasad (envy):it is a reprehensible attribute which brings a great deal of grievance upon the envious. The envious cannot tolerate others enjoy a benefit or have some privilege

10 KEY POINTS  Three evils are distinguished and focused on Lack of knowledge ignorance inactivity Darkness when it spreads and settles Blowers when they blow to the knots Envious when he envies

12  The first evil includes the other two Darkness when it settles The blowers when they blow to the knots The envious when he envies

13  Good and evil are defined by how we encounter an event or a subject; it is relative and two-faceted. murderersurgeon Knife

14  Knot in Arabic has a positive meaning. Here it refers to the knots which are supposed to remain tightly tied. The blowers in the surah are those who untie these knots.

15  Inactivity leads to content with the status quo.  ثاقلتم الی الارض / رضیتم بالحیاه الدنیا  There is no retirement in Islam.  یا ایتها النفس المطمئنه ارجعی

16  There is no end to perfection.  There is always a better situation imaginable.  There is no limit to improvement.

17  When someone is jealous of our blessings, we realize that we have some thing especial and begin to be grateful for it.

18  The Afterworld is in fact the image of our deeds in this world.  If you have no movement in this life, you will be still and motionless in Hereafter. (Falagh=well)

19  Ghol entails movement and expressing what is in your heart. It makes “seeking refuge” a social event. If you want to seek refuge, encourage others to do so.  When seeking refuge becomes a social behavior, the evils would lose force, decrease and disappear.

20  It is important to be aware of what you are doing in life.  You should have good reason for the actions you are taking.  Why are you here? why you are doing this? What is your intention?  This knowledge of signs (knowledge of falagh)

21 KEY POINTS  God’s divinity as a refuge driving toward perfection and removing defects we should seek refuge in someone who guides us toward perfection moving toward perfection is The best way to get away from evils

22 SURAH’S INTENTION Disease Evils cure Seeking refuge Medicine Say (ghol)

23  If you believe that you are surrounded by evils, you will move on, seek refuge, and save your life.
