2 Background The U.S. EPA’s Office of Water is announcing the 3 rd annual Campus RainWorks Challenge for university students. Each team is to design an innovative green infrastructure project for a location on their campus. Student teams will collaborate with a faculty advisor to develop design boards and a project narrative describing the project.

3 Examples of previous winners This is a watershed design made to treat and help retain water. This design also improved aesthetics and safety along a major highway. This design calls for a storm water pocket garden. This system is designed to retain 100% of run-off water from a 1 year storm.

4 Objective To design and construct a retention pond on Campus using run-off water from various sources. For environmental, economical, and educational purposes. Include detailed information on the design performance. Reflect extensive consultation with Southeastern planning department to assess project feasibility.

5 Factors in the Design Locate an area for the retention pond (including size). Methods of collecting and transporting water from rooftops and parking lots. Structure of the pond and the surrounding area. Method of circulating water to and from the pond.
