2 A. (1) Landmark of Singapore – Pioneer (1) Clue: Located along the East-West MRT Line. Named after one of Singapore’s early pioneers. Task: Describe his contributions to Singapore (no more than 50 words)

3 A. (2) Landmark of Singapore – Pioneer (2) Clue: Named after the second President of Singapore. One of main arteries of highways connecting to S’pore’s international airport. Task: Describe the contributions of this person (no more than 50 words)

4 A. (3) Landmark of Singapore – Pioneer (3) Clue: One of Singapore’s major hospital located within the central region. One of Singapore’s early pioneers. Task: Describe his contributions for Singapore (50 words).

5 A.(4) Landmark of Singapore – Pioneer (4) Clue: Found near the Esplanade theatre. He was killed as a war hero during the Japanese Occupation of Malaya and Singapore. Task: Describe his role during the Japanese Occupation.

He was credited in writing the country’s National Pledge in 1966. Task: Identify this man. Describe his role & contribution to Singapore’s foreign policy (1965-1980) from a young country to her place in ASEAN and the United Nations (100 words).

21 D. (20) Leaders of Modern Singapore: Clue: Considered one of Singapore’s modern founders. One of Singapore’s most important political leaders from the 1960s till his retirement in 1988. He also served as Chairman of the People’s Action Party. He was credited in the design of the country’s National Flag. Task: Identify this man. Describe his role & contribution to the country (100 words).

22 D. (21) Leaders of Modern Singapore: Clue: One of Singapore’s six Presidents. He was a Peranakan. He was credited in conveying a message from then President of Indonesia, Suharto to Singapore’s leaders which broke the difficult tension between Singapore and Indonesia during the time. Events that followed thereafter ushered a period of close working relationships between the neighbouring countries, and friendship between its leaders. Task: Identify this man. Describe his role & contribution to the country (100 words).

23 D. (22) Leaders of Modern Singapore: Clue: One of Singapore’s most important political leaders in the 1960s-1980s. He held the posts of chairmanships for a list of government-linked companies which later went on to become leading corporations in its respective fields of industry. But he was best remembered for his role Singaporeans would thank him for, which also won him Ramon Magsaysay Award in 1962. He is best remembered for solving the housing issues in the 1960s. Task: Identify this man. Describe his role & contribution to the country (100 words).

24 Tasks/ Notes: (1) Brief Outline/Task required: There are 4 parts. From part (A) to (D), each student will attempt at least 2 questions from each part. The remaining 2 questions can be chosen from any part. (2) Aim: An awareness and appreciation of the rich historical heritage in our city, contributions of pioneers and political leaders who had contributed much to the country and the namesake of some main subway train stations in our midst. (3) Given the tight constraints to write up on at least ten (10) topics (2 each from Part A, B, C & D and plus another 2 from any sub-parts), you are advised to liaise and work closely with your classmates (although the marks are individually graded). You are given only an hour to complete the task.
