2 Why is dermatology important?  According to the British Skin Foundation, at present there are about 8 million people in the United Kingdom with a serious skin condition.  This includes both skin cancer and inflammatory skin disease.  That is 1 person in every 8 people in the UK.  In Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals NHS Trust catchment population of approximately 500,000 that is potentially 62,500 patients.  It is a great challenge.
