3 How to Share Your Learning Type your “share” in the body of an email original work only ≈ 250 words Photo must be included as an attachment Photo credit must be included

4 Photos & Images You may NOT use images, photos, artwork, etc. that are copyright protected and/or owned by an individual or corporation You can use images that are in the public domain or carry a Creative Commons license.

5 Copyright Protection Items with copyright protection may not be copied or used without permission (images, photos, artwork, films, music, books, etc.) only the owner has the right to copy Must request permission from the creator or copyright holder to use the image An item can be protected by copyright even if it doesn’t have the © symbol Want to be a copyright expert? www.copyright.govwww.copyright.gov

6 Creative Commons Legal copyright licenses for creators who are willing to share their works with others, but with some restrictions or requirements Allow items to be shared and re-used according to the creator’s guidelines Permission does not have to be requested since the creator establishes guidelines up front

8 Public Domain Images, photos, books, artwork, etc. in public domain are not under copyright protection You do not have to ask permission to use public domain items Public domain is not an actual place How does an image get in public domain? – Author/creator declares it – Copyright expires (ex: Shakespeare’s plays)expires

9 Photo Credit Many Creative Commons licenses request attribution as part of the user agreement To attribute means ____________________ It is always a good idea to cite your source – Public domain works – CC works “Photo courtesy of ______________” or “Photo credit: __________________”

11 Image Sources Google Images  ADVANCED SEARCH for images that are “free to use or share” Flickr  Must look for and read CC licenses on the image you want to use

12 Recommended Image Sources www.PDphoto.org www.photos-public-domain.com www.ReusableArt.com www.phillipmartin.info/clipart/homepage/htm All these recommended sites require or request attribution statements!

13 Saving an Image Save your photo or image to the computer – Right click on image – “Save Image as” – Tell computer where to save image (desktop, jump drive, picture folder, you pick) – You must remember WHERE you saved the image

14 Attaching an Image to Email Click on the attachment feature in your email – Either a button with a paperclip on it or the words “Attach a file” under the subject line – Find the location where you saved the image – Double click on the image (or click once and then “insert” or “open”) – You should see the file name attached to the email. – Put your photo credit statement in the body of the email

15 Before You Hit Send! Before sending your email to Mrs. Jordan, check the following:  Photo attached  1 st thing in email: photo credit statement  Next: Your learning “share”  Spell check & proof read your share  Your name and contact information Now, you may send the email to: svhsteam9@gmail.com
