2 What is NECAP? Criterion-referenced standardized test State-mandated assessment of core content –Reading –Mathematics –Writing (Grades 5, 8, and 11) Administered to all students –Grades 3-8 –Grade 11 (reported separately)

4 Reading Results District-wide (Achievement Levels): 40% of students scored proficient or higher as compared to 37% in 2006. 29% of students scored substantially below proficient in reading in 2007, the same as in 2006. A trend demonstrating an increase in percent proficient across a three-year period has emerged.

5 Reading Results Grade-level (Achievement Levels): Percent proficient ranged from 36% (gr. 6) to 43% (gr. 5) Percent substantially below proficient ranged from 22% (gr. 5) to 31% (gr. 4, 8) Grades 5, 7 & 8: –Trend - more students proficient –Trend - fewer students substantially below proficient Grade 3-5 Grade 6-8

6 Reading Results Scaled Scores: No grade displays a mean scaled score that attains Proficient (i.e., 40). Grades 5, 7, and 8: –continuous gain in mean scaled sore across three years. Grade 3-5 Grade 6-8

7 Writing Results District-wide (Achievement Levels): 28% of students scored proficient or higher as compared with 24% in 2006 34% of students scored substantially below proficient as compared with 42% in 2006 Data is inconsistent for the district; trends do not emerge

8 Writing Results Grade-level (Achievement Levels): Percent proficient ranged from 20% (gr. 8) to 36% (gr. 5) Percent substantially below proficient ranged from 31% (gr. 5) to 37% (gr. 8) Trends do not emerge

9 Writing Results Scaled Scores: No grade displays a mean scaled score that attains Proficient (i.e., 40). Grade 8: –Trend - continuous one-point gains in mean scaled sore across three years.

10 Math Results District-wide (Achievement Levels): 28% of students scored proficient or higher as compared with 31% in 2006 44% of students scored substantially below proficient as compared with 43% in 2006 Data is inconsistent for the district; trends do not emerge

11 Math Results Grade Level (Achievement Levels): Percent proficient ranged from 25% (gr. 8) to 34% (gr. 5) Percent substantially below proficient ranged from 40% (gr. 3) to 48% (gr. 8). 2 of 6 grade levels demonstrate some degree of decline in the percent of students substantially below proficient from 2006 to 2007 – grades 7 and 8.
