2 Section 1 Objectives ●Identify the three main types of economic systems. ●Contrast developed and developing countries.

3 Recreate the following chart.
Primary Activities• use natural resources directly • location: at the site of the natural resource being used • examples: wheat farming, iron mining Secondary Activities• use raw materials to produce or manufacture something new• location: close to the resource or close to the market for the finished product• other factors affecting location: labor, energy, and land costs• examples: processing wheat into flour, manufacturing steel Tertiary Activities• provide services to people and businesses • location: usually near customers • examples: bakeries, car dealerships Quaternary Activities• process and distribute information• location: anywhere• other factors affecting location: access to skilled workers, good transportation and communications systems, places with pleasant climates and a high quality of life• examples: plant- genetics research, automotive engineering

7 Section 2 Objectives ●Analyze how people have used land throughout history ●Explain how urban geography describes human settlements. ●Identify some of the ways people use land in rural areas.

8 Describe the following
Domestication: Growing of plants and taming of animals for human uses Common day agribusiness would be an example of domestication. When humans raise these things for their use as opposed to having them be wild. Urbanization: When a majority of the population moves from farms to cities. This began to take place during the industrial revolution, due to the increased number of jobs in cities and an increase in housing.

9 What is Urban Geography and what are its uses?
Definitions Uses Geography of Cities Location Infrastructure Size Land use Urban Problems Pollution Over Crowding Destruction Know where to establish cities Establish boundaries To understand what works in areas to grow a city Limit the number of problems and issues in a city

10 What are CBD and edge cities?
CBD (Central Business District) Edge Cities City centers dominated by large stores, offices, and buildings. Usually set away from the down town area Clusters of large buildings usually located off major highways and shopping centers from the CBD Example would be the Wolfchase area

11 What are some urban problems?
Social  Poverty Environmental  Pollution Housing  Overpopulation Transportation  No or Bad Public Busses, Subway, or Elevated Train System
