5 National Institute for Health Research Investigators & Senior Investigators Associates Faculty Trainees Faculty members:  Conduct or support patient- or people-based research; and  Salary is funded, in part or in whole, from NIHR funding and/or DH Policy Research Programme (PRP) funding; and  are employed by an NHS organisation or by a University.

17 National Institute for Health Research Faculty Trainees Post Doctoral Award (PDA) Must have obtained a PhD Individuals already demonstrated a commitment for and success in research Strong training environment Feasible research project Suitable and tailored training programme Suitable mentoring arrangements Normally have no more than 5 years post-doctoral research experience 3 years FT (or 4 years @ 75%)

19 National Institute for Health Research Faculty Trainees NIHR Personal Award Scheme Timetable for Round 3- Similar for Round 4 Mid November Launch Early January 2007 – Closing date for receipt of applications March – Review Panels meet for short-listing May – Interview list confirmed following peer review June and July – Interviews July – Final decision from Professor Sally Davies, Director of R&D for DH August to December – Contracting and take-up of awards
