2.  Read the biography of Confucius that was handed to you.  Answer the Identify and Comprehension Biography questions at the top of the handout that was given to you.

3.  Students will be able to analyze the impact of Ancient Chinese religions on society through a close reading method.

4.  While reading we know that good readers make observations and inferences to understand and unpack a text.  Observation: “Right there” in the text  Inference: Drawing a conclusion using text evidence and background knowledge.

5.  As you read your section, you will observe and infer for that passage.  Write your answers in the spaces provided.  You and your group will have 8 minutes then we will switch readings.  By the end of class you will have close read al four passages.

6.  To what extent should the religious leaders of Ancient China control society?  Explain using evidence from the text as well as your own inferences.
