10 University of Georgia College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences Department of Crop and Soil Sciences www.cropsoil.uga.edu Weed Science Research 1.6 Total EFT to research Since 1999, the Weed Science group has published 94 refereed journal articles, 8 book chapters, 259 published abstracts Funding: $2.5 million since 1999 Impact: Research that has lead to critical use exemptions ~$100 million/year and other herbicide registrations have had an economic impact of ~$1.5 million per year Tropical spiderwort has been most troublesome weed in cotton since 2001 with impact of ~$5.6 million per year in increased control costs Glyphosate-resistant Palmer amaranth has the potential to have an economic impact of $20 million per year in cotton alone
