Encourage Creativity Look for apps that encourage students to build and think creatively. Geoboard MOMA Art Lab OSMO Educreations

In-app Purchases Try to avoid apps that have in-app purchases Nothing ruins excitement and flow more than a pop up window asking for money to use features that you think are valuable to students.

Paying for apps Recognize that you may have to pay for good apps. Education discount for some apps when you purchase 20 licenses at a time. Each iPad has to have it’s own paid app for it to pass any audit.

Trusted Sources Look for apps that are recommended by trusted sources and are created by reliable companies. Apps are constantly updating and evolving. If your app provider is not staying on top of software updates, your app may not always work properly.

Have you ever used Nearpod Yes No

Nearpod Nearpod is a lesson development tool that allows you to upload files, and create interactive activities for students. Student results are tracked and reports are generated. Free, School, and District editions. Paid versions offer additional features for uploading media, etc. Free content you can add includes: slides, video, audio, PDF, twitter feeds, and photo slide shows. Free activities include: polls, open ended questions, quizzes, and draw it.

Nearpod – How it works… Teachers create and publish original presentations When the teacher is ready to present, Nearpod generates a Pin. Students enter the pin and the presentation is loaded on their device. Students are prompted to enter their name or id# so that the teacher can track and share responses.

Nearpod – Activities… We have already experienced the poll activity. Draw it is another activity which allows students to draw using various colors, similar to an interactive white board. This is great for students who want to do more than just type or for students who are not comfortable typing yet. Let’s try a Draw it activity…

Draw it… Finish the drawing. What is he afraid of?

Nearpod Questions… Would you use Nearpod in a class you were teaching? What types of classes/settings do you think it would work best in?

Educreations Allows you to create and share video lessons with your iPad or browser. Videos can only be stored in your Educreations account. Great for students to be able to pause, rewind, and fast forward content. Great for students to record their own learning and share with teachers and families. The recording shows erasing so teachers and see where misunderstandings were made and the thought process of the student.

Educreations – create… Now it’s your turn to explore Educreations. Open the app, and explore the options for a few moments. Work as a group to record a short video. It could be a drawing, a math problem, diagramming a sentence, etc.
