Welcome to Algebra I/Algebra II Agenda: Welcome from Mr. Daniels Introductions Class Materials Class Procedures and Expectations Course Outcomes Grading 2012-13Algebra I/Algebra II - Mr. Daniels2

Introductions Who am I? – Former Engineer – Former Project Manager Why did I become a teacher? – To make a difference in students’ lives! What are my goals? – To improve students’ thinking skills – To ensure that at least 80% of students master 75% of skills taught 2012-13Algebra I/Algebra II - Mr. Daniels3

Two Truths and a Wish State your name Give 2 truths Give 1 wish Class will determine which are truths and which is a wish 2012-13Algebra I/Algebra II - Mr. Daniels4

Mr. D’s Two Truths and Wish Last year I donated a kidney. This year I completed two half marathons, 13.1 miles each, in one week. I am a motorcycle rider. I own a 2012 Harley Davidson Switchback. I have personally experienced 3 earthquakes – I was in the LA earthquake in July 2012. 2012-13Algebra I/Algebra II - Mr. Daniels5

CLASS MATERIALS A pack of pencils Two or more packs of notebook paper A two pocket folder One notebook only used for math One pad of graph paper 2012-13Algebra I/Algebra II - Mr. Daniels6

CLASSROOM PROCEDURES and EXPECTATIONS Welcome to Mr. Daniels' class. I am here to teach; you are here to learn. I will do my job; you will do yours, and we will together use this year wisely and beneficially. Positive attitude is the key of success. Let’s keep it POSITIVE all the time. 2012-137Algebra I/Algebra II - Mr. Daniels

WHY DO WE HAVE PROCEDURES? A procedure is the way that we do things. To do things right, we have to follow some simple procedures, for example: – To open your locker, you have to select your combination as directed by the lock manufacturer. – To place a call on your phone, you need to enter the number in the right order. So, to be successful in learning, you need to follow some simple procedures. 2012-138Algebra I/Algebra II - Mr. Daniels

ENTRANCE PROCEDURE Make sure you have all necessary materials for the class. Enter the classroom quietly. Sharpen your pencil or find a pen. Go directly to your assigned seat. Get ready for your work. 2012-139Algebra I/Algebra II - Mr. Daniels

RIGHT AFTER THE BELL RINGS Immediately start the Do Now that will be written on the board or handed to you on paper. Complete the Do Now in your math journal. When you finish, wait quietly for the next direction. 2012-1310Algebra I/Algebra II - Mr. Daniels

DURING INSTRUCTION Listen to the teacher with full attention. No pencil sharpening, talking, or whispering. Take notes when the teacher is explaining examples or discussing vocabulary. Ask permission to speak by raising your hand. Ask questions related to the subject. Other questions which are not related to the subject can be asked after instruction. After instruction, make sure you understand the concept. If not, ask questions by mentioning which part you didn’t understand. 2012-1311Algebra I/Algebra II - Mr. Daniels

WHILE YOU ARE WORKING Make sure you read or listen to the directions about your work and understand them. If you didn’t understand, ask help from other students sitting around you. If they also don’t understand, ask to the teacher to explain it. If you are asked to help, be polite and kind and offer your best. Talking to each other should be no louder than a whisper. The person sitting on the other side of the room should not be interrupted by your noise. Respect each other and be friendly. Use your time wisely. Put forth your best effort to finish your work on time. 2012-1312Algebra I/Algebra II - Mr. Daniels

KEEPING YOUR JOURNAL You should have a math journal which will be used for only your science class. (A spiral notebook is recommended.) Use pen or pencil to write in your journal. Using two different colors, one for the title and a different one for the body of the text, will make your journal look better and more organized. The first page should be the title page. Write your full name, section, and school name on it. Number the pages in the right bottom corner. Always write the title with capital letters. Each day, put the date first. Keep your journal clean and organized. Your journal will be collected and checked from time to time. Turn it in on time when you are asked. Take good care of your journal. Do not lose it. 2012-1313Algebra I/Algebra II - Mr. Daniels

IF THE TEACHER RAISES HIS HAND Stop whatever you are doing at that moment. Face the teacher and wait silently. Notify any classmates who haven’t noticed that the teacher has raised his hand. No talking or whispering. All of your attention should be given to the teacher. 2012-1314Algebra I/Algebra II - Mr. Daniels

AFTER YOU ARE DONE Check your work and the directions one more time to see if you missed anything or did something incorrectly. If the assignment is to be turned in, make sure you place your work in the correct bin. Start your reading session. (Read your book, magazine, etc.) 2012-1315Algebra I/Algebra II - Mr. Daniels

DISMISSAL PROCEDURE Clean your work area and take all garbage to the trash can. Wait for Mr. Daniels to dismiss you. The ring of the bell does not dismiss you. Return all class material (books, calculators, etc.) to the appropriate locations. After you get permission to leave, straighten your desk and leave quietly. Thank You. 2012-1316Algebra I/Algebra II - Mr. Daniels

HOMEWORK PROCEDURE You will be given homework on certain days of the week. It will be collected the following day. Late homework will not be accepted. 2012-1317Algebra I/Algebra II - Mr. Daniels

WHEN YOU ARE TARDY Stand by Mr. Daniels' desk. Inform him of your excuse or give him your tardy pass. Go to your seat after you are given permission to do so. You will not be excused from any work you missed. Get the assignment from a classmate and do it at home. 2012-1318Algebra I/Algebra II - Mr. Daniels

WHEN YOU ARE ABSENT Get the assignments from your classmates and the worksheet from Mr. Daniels OR online at www.fengerhighschool.org. Do the work at home. www.fengerhighschool.org If you missed a test because of your excused absence, inform Mr. Daniels and arrange a time to make up the test after school. You will not be able to make up any work if you have an unexcused absence. You will get a “0” for those assignments. 2012-1319Algebra I/Algebra II - Mr. Daniels
