Can a scientist be happy with project management ?

It is a hard job for a professor !

Scientists should NOT do management !

… because their are (usually) helpless in the face of organizational, financial, and legal issues …

No contracts ! No reports ! No audits !

Specific problems of EU research projects in New Member States Large differencies in salaries at Universities between Old and New EU members: factors 4-6 Lack of stable legal solutions for project running, no temporary project positions, no Euro accounts, problems with VAT… Lack of professional project managers: weak managerial support at University and project levels

Bottom-up scientists initiatives in Poland University Councils of Project Participants (Warsaw, Białystok…). Polish Council of Research Project Coordinators (K. Grabowiecki, J. Hołyst, Z. Krasiński) Aims: exchanging of experiences between project participants/coordinators, influencing University and state administration, lobbing… Thank you for your attention ! jholyst@if.pw.edu.pl, www.if.pw.edu.pl/~jholyst Next projects ?
