Purpose… Prosper ISD is dedicated to providing all students an engaging and rigorous academic experience while preparing our students to be collaborators, effective communicators and critical problem solvers in a diverse globalized society. Over the last several years, Prosper ISD has worked diligently to ensure a solid curriculum foundation was in place before allowing students to bring their own devices to school (iPad, laptops, eReaders, smartphones, etc.). We believe technology is a tool that enables our students to learn the curriculum at a deeper level and we believe that curriculum is the driving force behind technology usage in the classroom.

BYOD Allows Students to be… Engaged in learning Self-motivated Self-directed Independent Creative Collaborative Communicative A critical thinker

Bring Your Own Device How did the journey begin at Rogers? What type of devices are allowed? How do I know my child is safe? When can students use the devices and how will they know when it is okay to use it in the building? Will there be consequences or rewards with the use of technology?

Trust Cards Each 5 th and 6 th grade student was given a Trust Card at the beginning of the 2013-2014 school year. The Trust Card works in conjunction with our Bring Your Own Device program. Students can earn various privileges with the Trust Card, but if consequences are warranted the card can be taken away for a period of time.

Will my student’s activity be monitored? YES! When a student brings his or her own technology device to Rogers, it is mandatory that the device utilize the PISD-Public wireless network. To access wireless network services students will select the PISD-Public wireless network. Once students access the PISD public wireless network, they will have filtered internet access just as they would on a district owned device. Devices may only be used in the instructional setting.

Frequently Asked Questions??? Is it required that students use the PISD wireless? Can they use their own 3G or 4G service? It is absolutely required that students use the district filtered wireless. Using their own wireless provider during school is a breach of both the Trust Card and RUP agreement and will result in revocation of your privileges to bring a device to school.

Please remember parents make the decisions for their child to participate Monitoring your child’s activity with technological devices can never be too much. Be in the know and let us work together to keep them safe and learn safety when using technology. Fact! One of the safest places your child can be on the Internet, is at school.
