6 SELECT Curriculum Overview The SELCT program will emphasize: leadership development values-based health care health systems redesign Students enrolled in the SELECT program will be required to: 1. meet all the competencies and objectives of the traditional USF program 2. and the competences and objectives of the SELECT program.

7 SELECT Specific Competencies Leadership Development: Building capacity for appreciative, transformative and holistic leadership and follower-ship Demonstrates leadership skills and effectiveness in a variety of settings Values-Based Health Care: Delivering Patient-Centered Care Demonstrates the ability to synthesize broad based knowledge to drive health care decisions and problem-solving Health Care Systems: Enhancing Patient Outcomes Enhancing patient outcomes by utilizing strategies for reducing errors, enhancing quality and efficiently using resources

8 Overview: Year 1 SELECT PROGRAM One week orientation program (for SELECT MS 1 students only) prior to beginning of school year Integration of competencies into 10-20 hours the Doctoring One course (all USF COM students) in collaboration with course directors All USF students will be introduced to concepts of the healthcare system (10 hours), including basic payer models, organization of healthcare, and basic principles of public health SELECT students required to apply concepts (10 additional hours) Summer experience – 8 weeks (SELECT students only) Designed to provide students with a broader/deeper understanding of health care leadership, public health, and health systems based issues in an area of their interest. Under the supervision of a mentor and, ideally, the project initiated will form the basis of the student’s SELECT program Scholarly Concentration Project that is required for graduation. Also, a mechanism to orient students to the Lehigh Valley and the community.

9 Overview: Year 2 SELECT PROGRAM All existing COM required second year courses i.e., Physical Diagnosis II, Longitudinal Clinical Experience II, Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, Pharmacology, Principles of Medical Immunology and Infectious Disease, and Clinical Problem Solving, Colloquium II and Evidence Based Clinical Practice. Colloquium II - SELECT program students will complete a specifically designed course which will contain content in health care systems health care finance and leadership principles. Completion of year two and the USMLE Step I exam SELECT students relocate to Allentown to continue their medical education at LVHN after completion of year two and Step 1 exam.

10 Overview: Years 3 and 4 SELECT PROGRAM All nine of the required 3 rd and 4 th year clerkships (i.e., Primary Care and Special Populations, Inpatient Medicine and Pediatrics, Surgical Care, Newborn and Maternal Health, Emergent and Urgent Care, Neuropsychiatry, Critical Care, Skin and Bones, Interdisciplinary Oncology and one AI) will be offered at LVHN. SELECT Content integrated into Introduction to Clerkship course and into required clerkships. Competencies and objectives for each of the clerkships at LVHN will be aligned with those on the main campus. Log books will be utilized by course directors to track student’s learning experiences and to ensure comparability across teaching sites. Evaluation methods including NBME exams, quizzes, case presentations, CPX exams will be the same.

11 Year 4 SELECT PROGRAM Two month capstone project with integrated coursework and independent research tailored to their individual development plan. To include fieldwork, mentored research, and didactic sessions to prepare the student for his/her leadership goals. (Beginning in year 3, students will work with an individual mentor to plan this individuated curriculum.)
