Geometry Review Topic 8 Practice

What is a trapezoid? A figure with only one pair of parallel lines. Parallel lines

What is a rectangle? A figure with opposite sides that are parallel and the same length. There are four right angles.

What is a parallelogram? A figure with 2 pair of parallel lines, where NOT all of the sides are the same length. Parallel lines 12 yards 9 yards

What is a rhombus? A figure with two pairs of parallel lines where all of the sides ARE the same length. 5 inches

What is a polygon? A)A closed plane figure made up of line segments. B) A three-dimensional object

What is a polygon? A)A closed plane figure made up of line segments.

What is a ray? A part of a line with only one endpoint.

What is a line? A straight path that goes on forever in both directions.

What is perimeter? The distance around a figure 10 feet 6 feet 6 + 6 + 10 + 10 = 32 feet

Find the perimeter! 6 inches 2 + 3 + 6 = 11 inches 2 inches 3 inches

Find the perimeter! 11 inches 4 + 8 + 11 = 23 inches 4 inches 8 inches

Find the perimeter! 6 inches 1 + 1 + 6 + 1 + 1 +3 + 1 + 1 + 6 + 1 + 1 + 3 = 26 inches 1 inch 3 inches 6 inches 1 inch

Find the perimeter! 2 X 6 = 12 and 7 X 2 = 14 12 + 14 = 26 inches 2 inches 7 inches

What is area? The number of square units needed to cover a figure. 123 567 4 8 The area is 8 square units.

Find the area! There are 3 rows of 5. 3 X 5 = 15 square units.

Find the area! There are 4 rows of 6. 4 X 6 = 24 square units.

Find the area! There are 2 rows of 6. 2 X 6 = 12 square units. There are 2 rows of 5. 2 X 5 = 10 square units. 12 + 10 = 22 square units.

What is volume? The amount of space matter takes up. The volume of a solid is the number of cubes (cubic units) needed to fill it.

Find the volume! There are 5 cubes. The volume is 5 cubic units.

Find the volume! There are 10 cubes. The volume is 10 cubic units.

Find the volume! There are 9 cubes. The volume is 9 cubic units.

Volume of rectangular prisms Volume = length x width x height 4 x 2 x 2 = 16 cubic units Length = 4 units Width = 2 units Height = 2 units

Find the volume! 10 x 2 x 3 = 60 cubic inches 10 inches 3 inches 2 inches

What is it? Cylinder

What is it? Rectangular Prism

What is it? Cube

What is it? Hexagon

What is it? Trapezoid

What is it? Octagon

What is it? Sphere

What is a line of symmetry? Line on which a figure can be folded so that both sides are congruent.

Where are lines of symmetry?

Congruent, Similar, or Neither Congruent – Same size and shape

Congruent, Similar, or Neither Similar – Same shape but different size

Congruent, Similar, or Neither Neither – Different shape and size

A scalene triangle has sides that are all different lengths. 4 inches 22 inches 9 inches

An isosceles triangle has 2 sides that are the same length. 9 inches 15 inches 9 inches

An equilateral triangle has sides that are all the same lengths. 9 inches

Right, Obtuse, or Acute? Obtuse Triangle This angle is larger than a right angle.

Right, Obtuse, or Acute? Acute Triangle All three angles are smaller than a right angle.

Right, Obtuse, or Acute? Right Triangle This angle has a square corner. It is a right angle. It is 90 degrees.

A translation is when… A figure slides in any direction.

A rotation is when A figure is turned.

A reflection is when A figure is flipped over.

Word Puzzlers Zac has to choose an outfit. He has 1 green shirt, 1 blue shirt, 1 pair of jeans, and one pair of shorts. How many outfits can he wear? Make an organized list!!!! 4. BS + Shorts3. BS + Jeans1. GS + Jeans2. GS + Shorts

Word Puzzlers John is in line right behind Dan. Sarah is directly between Kate and Dan. Who is first and who is last? Draw a picture!!!! KateSarahDanJohn FirstLast

The End! Study your glossary definitions! Know the difference between area and perimeter. Be ready to think, think, think!!!! You’re going to do great!
