8 KBLI and Preparation for Indonesia Population and Housing Census 2010 KBLI and Preparation for Indonesia Population and Housing Census 2010 To prepare for the Population and Housing Census 2010, it is important to set up questions properly, especially question related to economic activities/KBLI, which are easily understood by enumerators and respondents. Preliminary try out for setting up the question was conducted in early March 2008. Based on feedbacks from preliminary try out on setting up the questions, flash cards of KBLI have been created, hopefully it will help enumerators to classify economic activities correctly. Part of the flash cards are as follows: Division: 49. Land transport and transport via pipeline Group: 492. Other land transport Class: 4921. Urban and suburban passenger land transport Transportation and Storage H. 49211. Urban passenger land transport Sub-Directorate for the Development of Standardization and Classification of Statistics The Directorate for the Development of Censuses and Surveys Methodology 8 / 12

9 Experiences and feedbacks from preliminary try out for setting up the question are used to improve the questionnaire. The improved questionnaire have been implemented in the first try out on May 2008. Based on feedbacks from first try out in the implementation of improved questionnaire, it was realized that question related to economic activities is the most difficult question among others. Sub-Directorate for the Development of Standardization and Classification of Statistics The Directorate for the Development of Censuses and Surveys Methodology In the second try out, it will be tested 2 (two) types of question related to economic activities. First type, gives the opportunity to enumerators to write down respondents answer (open answer). Second type gives close answer. Second try out will be conducted on December 2008. Results of the second try out will be analyzed to decide data processing system. Questions with open answer and close answer are as follows: 9 / 12 KBLI and Preparation for Indonesia Population and Housing Census 2010 KBLI and Preparation for Indonesia Population and Housing Census 2010

10 Question with close answer: Question with open answer: Question with close answer is easier in data processing but gives limited information. Question with open answer is more difficult in data processing but gives comprehensively information. Which one to choose?

11 CONCLUSIONS: HOPEFULLY, STARTING ON JULY 2009 INDONESIA WILL USE KBLI 2009, WHICH IS FOLLOW ISIC REVISION 4, ADJUSTED TO ASEAN- CIC AND LOCAL CONDITIONS OF ECONOMIC ACTIVITIES. KBLI 2009 WILL BE USE TO OBTAIN DATA ON ECONOMIC ACTIVITIES, WHICH IS ONE OF THE EFFORTS TO IMPROVE QUALITY DATA ON ECONOMIC ACTIVITIES. TO PREPARE FOR INDONESIA POPULATION AND HOUSING CENSUS 2010, QUESTION RELATED TO ECONOMIC ACTIVITIES HAVE BEEN OBSERVED TO DECIDE WHICH ONE TO CHOOSE: QUESTION WITH OPEN ANSWER OR QUESTION WITH CLOSE ANSWER QUESTION WITH CLOSE ANSWER IS EASIER IN DATA PROCESSING BUT GIVES LIMITED INFORMATION. QUESTION WITH OPEN ANSWER IS MORE DIFFICULT IN DATA PROCESSING BUT GIVES MORE COMPREHENSIVELY INFORMATION. Sub-Directorate for the Development of Standardization and Classification of Statistics The Directorate for the Development of Censuses and Surveys Methodology IN THE QUESTIONNAIRE OF INDONESIA POPULATION AND HOUSING CENSUS 2010, QUESTION RELATED TO ECONOMIC ACTIVITIES IS THE MOST DIFFICULT QUESTION AMONG OTHERS. 11 / 12
