CONCLUSIONS & RECOMMENDATIONS - Critical point method should be a sound basis on which further improvements could be developed, such as a better integration of concept Point Merge by EUROCONTROL and the move towards trajectory based operations including controlled time of arrival (4D trajectories). - The use of airspace is dynamic and responsive to changes, affecting the controller’s performance. Finding an appropriate balance between airspace structure and air traffic control complexity should allow system and airspace designers to improve the performance of the system, while maintaining safe operations.
