1 Information & Communication Technologies (ICT) Professional Development Clusters 2010–2012

2 Ministry Objectives The Ministry has established the Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) Professional Development Programme with clusters of schools throughout New Zealand with the objective of providing a school based professional development programme for staff in the use of ICT.

3 The New Zealand Curriculum

4 National Goals of the Programme The objectives of the Programme to be provided by the Board under this Agreement are to provide professional development programmes that: Supports integration of ICT to give effect to the New Zealand Curriculum / Te Marautanga o Aotearoa; Increases capability of teachers and principals to improve students‘ learning and achievement through e-learning; Strengthens professional learning communities and increased collaboration within and across schools; Increases e-learning leadership and ICT strategic planning capability of principals and teachers; Increases the school community’s understanding of the educational contribution of e learning.

5 Project Goals The cluster’s goals are summarised as follows: Develop, trial and implement learning programmes (integrated and subject–specific units), that are underpinned by the vision, principles, values and key competencies outlined in the New Zealand Curriculum / Te Marautana o Aotearoa, with a focus on ICT use as a management and e- learning tool. Increase the teachers’ understanding of the effectiveness of e-learning and how it can be used to enhance student learning and improve student achievement. Improve teachers’ skills, expertise and confidence in the use of ICT.

6 Teachers understand and are confident in the creation and use of e- portfolios. The staff work with the students to development these e- portfolios Create, reflect and refine targeted learning communities of students, teachers and the community within and between departments, individually and collaboratively, across the schools in the cluster. The development of specific strategic plans, based on sound e-learning pedagogy and focus on the key competencies as outlined in the New Zealand Curriculum / Te Marautana o Aotearoa. Where possible, this strategic plan will incorporate and build on the recognised higher order thinking strategies. The Board Of Trustees, Senior Management and ICT Leadership team will regularly inform the school communities about e-learning and its impact on school wide practices and student achievement.

10 Term 1 Goals  The development of specific strategic plans, based on sound e-learning pedagogy and focus on the key competencies as outlined in the New Zealand Curriculum / Te Marautana o Aotearoa, with a focus on ICT use as a management and e-learning tool.  Increase the teachers’ understanding of the effectiveness of e-learning and how it can be used to increase student achievement.

12 GOAL TWO – CURRICULUM DOCUMENTATION To review and revise all documentation, including schemes, policy statements, programme plans, assessment details and student records, to bring it into line with the New Zealand Curriculum document. SPECIFIC ACTIONS – 2010 HODs and teachers will update schemes and policy documentation to reflect and provide clear guidelines for implementing the New Zealand Curriculum.

13 GOAL FIVE INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY & SYSTEMS DEVELOPMENT To ensure that the College makes best use of the opportunities and initiatives that the ICTPD contract provides for in 2010, 2011 and 2012 To ensure that the College maintains a modern, easily used and effective information technology platform and that it is used to enhance student learning outcomes Ensure that the school’s ICT plan is continuously reviewed and updated.

14 SPECIFIC ACTIONS – 2010 Senior Management will: ensure that the quality, quantity and range of information provided by MUSAC is continuously reviewed, improved and upgraded work with the ICTPD coordinator to provide training opportunities and initiatives to all teachers respond to requests from staff for IT support to enhance teaching programmes continuously develop and implement the rolling 2 year information technology development plan and maintain and improve all aspects of Classroom Manager, ensuring that all teachers have access to assistance and training in its use The ICTPD coordinator, in conjunction with other schools in the cluster will: plan for and lead school-wide initiatives make available training and professional development opportunities to ensure all teachers have resources and training support in exploring the use of IT in pedagogical contexts – including making best use of active board and Clickview and asTTle technology implement the MOE contract and facilitate training and development for all staff that seeks to maximise the effectiveness of ICT as a teaching tool.
