Evangelism and Witnessing Our Goal {167} TO INCREASE A person’s store of biblical knowledge. To use that knowledge for good, and in this context the greatest good is to give those who faced eternal destruction the opportunity for eternal life.

Evangelism and Witnessing Lesson 7, May 19 Evangelism and Witnessing Lesson 7, May 19 Corporate Evangelism and Witnessing

Corporate Evangelism and Witnessing Key Text 2 Timothy 2:2 NKJV “And the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.”

Corporate Evangelism and Witnessing Initial Words {241} IT IS IMPORTANT that all believers recognize their God-given potential. Sometimes it is difficult for someone to become involved because leaders are not constantly looking for gifted people to incorporate into that work. We will look at some of the way in which individuals can become involved.

Corporate Evangelism and Witnessing Quick Look 1. Corporate Action Needed (Ecclesiastes 4:9-12) 2. Corporate Planning Owned (1 Corinthians 14:40) 3. Corporate Activities Shared (Matthew 10:2-4)

Corporate Evangelism and Witnessing 1. Corporate Action Needed Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 NKJV “TWO ARE BETTER than one…. for if they fall, one will lift up his companion. … If two lie down together, they will keep warm…. Though one may be overcome by another, two can withstand him. And a threefold cord is not quickly broken.”

1.Corporate Action Needed Left and Right Hands {242} IF ONE PERSON is not aware of what the others are doing or planning, how can they know what support is needed, and when? Many members will volunteer to support when they are aware of the program and what is needed and when they are assured that their contribution is an integral part of the whole church program.

1.Corporate Action Needed Towards Christian Maturity {246} The Christian’s maturity, growing into the fullness of Christ (Eph 3:19), is the proper goal of the local congregation. Working for the maturity of new converts is just as important as working to get them to accept Christ and to join His church.

1.Corporate Action Needed Towards Christian Maturity {246} In fact, the church’s work of incorporation will help to ensure that their evangelistic efforts will not become a waste of time. Follow-up is not just the work of one or two designated leaders, it is the work of the whole church.

Corporate Evangelism and Witnessing 2. Corporate Planning Owned 1 Corinthians 14:40 NKJV “LET ALL THINGS be done decently and in order.”

2. Corporate Planning Owned Planning Together {243} MISTAKES THAT CHURCHES can make when considering their involvement in witnessing and evangelism. (1) Set goals but neglect to introduce strategies necessary to reaching them. (2) Work on some strategies without setting any firm goals. (3) Attempt either of the above without considering a process of evaluation.

2. Corporate Planning Owned Planning Together {243} Those who set goals and are involved in strategic planning are typically the ones who buy into the whole direction and process. It is important, therefore, that as many people as possible have some input into all phases of the planning so that they, too, have a sense of ownership.

Corporate Evangelism and Witnessing 3. Corporate Activities Shared Matthew 10:2-4 NKJV “NOW THE NAMES of His twelve disciples are these: first, Simon…and Andrew his brother; James…and John his brother; Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew…; James the Son of Alphaeus, and…Thaddaeus…; Simon the Cananite and Judas Iscariot….”

3. Corporate Activities Shared Working in Teams {244} THE EARLY BELIEVERS worked together in groups. It makes a lot of sense. Besides each one having specific gifts and talents that others don’t, there’s also protection in numbers.

3. Corporate Activities Shared Working in Teams {244} There’s a sense of accountability: others are watching you, others can help guide you, others can help to protect you from wandering into directions that tragically might lead you astray.

As believers grow up into Christ, something happens that is wonderful, even supernatural. They are “joined and knit together” through their personal contributions to the church as a whole. Optimum effectiveness of any church is achieved when every part does its share. 3. Corporate Activities Shared “Knit Together” {245} As believers grow up into Christ, something happens that is wonderful, even supernatural. They are “joined and knit together” through their personal contributions to the church as a whole. Optimum effectiveness of any church is achieved when every part does its share.

Corporate Evangelism and Witnessing Final Words {247} “In laboring where there are already some in the faith, the minister should at first seek not so much to convert unbelievers, as to train the church members for acceptable co-operation.” —Gospel Workers 196.
