Bypass Surgery By Stephen Weiss, Ian McDonough, and Anthony Gonzo

Artery Clogged The artery is clogged from too much Burger King. Too late to exercise. Time for plan B: “The Weed Wacker”

Coronary artery “off-pump” bypass Devices are placed to stabilize heart. One end of each graft is sewn on to the coronary arteries past the blockages and the other end is attached to the aorta. Stabilizing devices are removed. The sternum is wired together and the incisions are sutured closed. Patient moved to ICU.

Coronary artery “on-pump” bypass The surgeon sutures cannulae into the heart and instructs the perfusionist to start bypass. Surgeon places the aortic cross-clamp across the aorta and instructs the perfusionist to deliver cardioplegia (a special Potassium-mixture) to stop the heart and slow its metabolism. One end of each graft is sewn on to the coronary arteries past the blockages and the other end is attached to the aorta. Heart is restarted. The sternum is wired together and the incisions are sutured closed. Patient moved to ICU.

Evaluation Cont. 4 Out of the 4 times we have tested, our robot performed above expectations One of the test required us to give our robot a little push so it would sense the blockage Overall our robot performed consistently over the 4 trials we did

Improvements Our group believes that our robot could have been built a little more sturdy because some minor parts would fall off at the end of a test Besides that our robot was perfect
