Flipped- Which of the following would best describe how often and when you watched the lectures? (Fall 2011) Flipped- Which of the following would best describe how often and when you watched the lectures? (Fall 2012)

Traditional - Which of the following would best describe how often you attended class to participate in lectures?

Traditional- Assuming your professor could post his recorded lectures, would you attend class at all?

Flipped- What word best describes your experience in regard to working in class rather than sitting through a traditional lecture? (2011) Flipped- What word best describes your experience in regard to working in class rather than sitting through a traditional lecture? (2012)

Flipped- What word best describes your experience in regard to working in class rather than sitting through a traditional lecture? Traditional - What word best describes your experience in regard sitting through a traditional lecture? (this question is not an evaluation of this particular instructor, just the lecture format)

PositiveNegative focus betterIt was more work to do at home, since I was learning at home and had to complete assignments at home. Much Better! It was benificial because we got to apply the concepts we learned and could ask questions if we didnt understand. I got more out of the videos because I could watch them on my own time and take my time passing and rewinding to have accurate notes Amazibng Its easier to work in the class then listen to someone talk for a long period of time Interesting

PositiveNegative watching the videos was good, and we go to class we would just talk and explain what we watched Do not like the online lectures Doing hands on work helps me retain the information better. it was easier to understand after i did the work in class with her help I believe it was much more effective because i came with questions to class and left with a better understanding more focus It helped because it showed me what needed to be done. I just would have like the lectures to be mores hands on like some ofthem were, and not just goin through the slides. it really gave you time to ask questions and really practice the work I really learn a lot from this method because lecturing would've bored me Doing work in class was helpful and made it easier to understand. it really gave you time to ask questions and really practice the work Working in class and watching lectures from the night before was very helpful. I was able to understand the information more.

PositiveNegative engagedHe should gave us the formulas written out that we should study the most chestry is a huge subjuct engaged Grabs my attention Intriging when material is related to everyday life. depends on the instructor. some instructors know how to make lectures interesting others just make it boring and makes me not want to be there It was helpful because, I could get help for the problems or topics that confused me.

Flipped - What word best describes your experience in regard to working in class in groups? (2011) Flipped - What word best describes your experience in regard to working in class in groups? (2012)

Traditional - What word best describes your experience in regard to working in class in groups, in any of your classes?

PositiveNegative It was good when i had people that actully helped work waste of time interestingsometimes it would be about just getting the grade rather then learning. This was benificial because we could work together and had different strengths and weaknesses in different areas so we could help eachother. Loved it! Very helpful. I could explain my knowledge to others as well for them to me and have a better understanding of material I enjoyed being able to discuss problems with my peers Meaningful Productive helpful I learned easier from other students and the work tends to stay in your head engaging

i liked working my group, everyone brought in a little bit of information to the in class quiz It have others to put in their inputs and help when someone didnt fully know the answer but had someone to help guide them along. i love my group It was very helpful It was good because the group work was graded, however it was always rushed and I felt like I couldn't add my imput because they were always in a rush to complete it. awesome usually i hate working in groups because no one wants to help but i really had a good group we all helped each other and learned a lot more group was very good, even one had their own understanding on the notes, so it helped having different ways to solve a problem I enjoyed working in groups because I had the opportunity to converse with other students and work problems through with everyone's knowledge of the subject in order to successfully solve the problem. awesome usually i hate working in groups because no one wants to help but i really had a good group we all helped each other and learned a lot Working in groups was great. If I did not know something or was unsure about the information covered in class, 9 times out of 10, one of my group members understood it. Help me learn more

PositiveNegativeDepends Gives experience with group exercises some instructors has horrible people skills i dont like working in groups but will if its required Helpfulon the groups and what we working on GreatIt really depends on what class for me. Two classes I have attended have been a horrible experience for me with group work. Only one has been enjoyable.

Traditional- If you had to choose between the same instructor who taught using this traditional format, all other things being equal (i.e. the instructors are equally rigorous), would you prefer to never have a "real" lecture but have them recorded for you?

Flipped - If you participate in another class with flipped format, would it matter if the professor in the room with you during class time is also the one giving the lectures online?
